VIVA LAS HEMPFEST
The legalization of marijuana has been sweeping the nation over the last decade making the plant accessible for medical and recreational use. The legal history of the prohibition of cannabis dates back to the early 20th century when major federal limitations were placed. It has been a slow climb over the past few decades reforming the nation wide laws that declared marijuana criminal. It hasn’t been easy to suggest the benefits of cannabis use after the prohibition created such a public fear of the plant and its psychoactive effects. Groups of cannabis activists have helped lead the way into acceptance by forming communities that embrace the many uses of the plant. People gather from all around the world to attend the world’s largest annual gathering advocating decriminalization of marijuana, known as the Hempfest. The Hempfest has popped up in states around the country supporting the cannabis industry in Arizona , Oklahoma , Alaska, Idaho, and has recently celebrated Nevada’s first year of becoming recreational. In this last year Nevada set a great example of how legalization could benefit the economy. When the laws passed for the approval of possession and consumption by adults opening the sales of recreational cannabis in 2017, it created over 5,000 new jobs, opened up investment opportunities, and raised tax revenues. The state of Nevada host’s one of the world’s top destinations for the ages 21 and up, making Las Vegas the prefect hot spot for the cannabis industry. Sin City has planned a number of events and activities around cannabis including the Herban Expo, MJ Biz Con, and weed museums! It’s really no surprise why the Hempfest branched out to Vegas and Live At Hempfest was thrilled.
The Viva Las Hempfest brought hundreds of cannabis enthusiasts from all around the world to gather at the newly reopened Rebar in downtown Vegas on November 3rd, 2018.
The event was brought together and hosted by the well known activist Jeremy Miller who arranged everything from the amazing vendors to the stage performances by comedians and musicians. It was a good turn out with positive vibes, LiveatHempfest thoroughly enjoyed the event as we captured interviews and watched the anticipated headlining act Rocky Kramer perform. Even though Las Vegas is a celebrated recreational state , people are only allowed to smoke marijuana in the privacy of their homes which helps keep the crime off the streets. So if you were trying to find a joint session at the Viva Las Hempfest, you would have had to slip away from the event to participate. Don’t let that stop you from attending though. The event proved itself as a great place to meet new people, become educated, and enjoy entertainment. Make sure to read over www.hempfest.org to discover Hempfest schedules near you !
